Lord Sree Rama Temple
Lord Sree Rama Temple is a Hindu temple located in Bhadrachalam of Telangana state in India. The wedding anniversary of Lord Rama and his wife Sita is celebrated opulently on Sree Rama Navami day in Bhadrachalam every year.
Bhadrachalam temple darshan is done by millions of people every year. The temple is on the banks of the river Godavari River that is flowing in a southern way. It was built in the 17th century by the Sree Rama Devotee Kancharla Gopanna.
History of Bhadrachalam Temple:
In the 17th century CE, a tribal woman named Pokala Dhammakka residing in Bhadhrareddypalem discovered Lord Rama’s deity in an anthill. She resolved the anthill with Godavari water.
Dhammakka constructed a hall (mandapam) with the help of villagers and offered prayers to the deities. During the rule of Abul Hasan Qutb Shah, Kancherla Gopanna assisted as the tehsildar of Bhadrachalam.
‘Ramadas’ was the title given toGopannaby the Kabirdas, a Muslim saint whose charity moved. Obeying Shah’s orders, Gopanna implemented the Jaziya tax, a penalty to force Hindus to adopt Islam.
Noticing the temple’s decayed state, by collecting donationsGopanna decided to build a temple for the deity. In the first attempt, he was harshly criticized by the local Hindus for implementing the tax.
Depressed by repels, Gopanna decided to use some of the tax collected to build the temple and confront the issues. Finally, the temple was made entirely with nearly 6 lakh varahas.
About Gopanna
After knowing the truth, Shah became furious about that, and Gopanna was called up to the court. Gopanna explained that he did does not have the intention to misuse the treasury.
He told that he had sent a message about using the tax for temple construction. He didn’t receive any response, so he proceeded to build the temple. And thought of reimbursing the fee that he would receive in the future.
On hearing that, Shah ordered his soldiers to imprison Gopanna and hang him if he failed to repay the amount within twelve years. On the last day of the twelfth year.
Lord Rama and Lakshmana
Lord Rama and Lakshmana appeared in Shah’s dream and refunded the entire amount in Ramadas. Ramadas are the gold coins with the Rama’s lettering on them.
When the Shah woke up, he saw the real gold coins in his palace and released Gopanna. He offered a lifetime pension for Gopanna and donated the area around Bhadhrachalam as a gift to the temple.
Some scholars ignore Rama’s idea of repaying the sum, say that the Shah had made an impartial and fair inquiry, found Gopanna as innocent, and acquitted him with due honor.
After many years, two friends Tumu Lakshmi Narasimha Dasu of Guntur and Varada Ramadasu of Kanchipuram, offered their prayers daily at Bhadrachalam had spent their lives over there. After Varada Ramadasu’s death, Narasimha Dasu took his corpse into the Godavari and drowned in the river.
Until the end of the Vishalandhra movement, the temple was apart of the Godavari district. Later in 1956, the town was incorporated into the Khammam district.
During the Telangana Movement, the states Telangana and Andhra claimed that Bhadrachalam belongs to their respective areas. Finally, the Bhadrachalam temple became a part of the Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana State.
