Nethanna Bima Yojana in Telangana

Nethanna Bima was Published on August 7, 2022. Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister launched the plans for this state. 

The program will be launched for the benefit of handloom workers on August 7 to mark National Handloom Day. Under this proposal, the government will cover the insurance premiums.

If the person we are covering dies due to illness or accident while the insurance is active. The insurance pays up to Rs 5 lakh per nominee or family. Some insurance programs may take a long time to send the money to the nominee. 

However, as per this arrangement, within ten days of the beneficiary’s death, the nominee will receive Rs. you will receive five lakhs. The Handloom and textile department of the nodal agency is responsible for this initiative, and they look after everything.

Scheme Overview:

The government has set aside Rs 50 crore for this program, of which Rs 25 crore, i.e., 50%, has already been disbursed. As a part, the state government will implement Nethanna Bhima Scheme compared to Rythu Bhima Scheme. 

It will provide financial security to the weavers’ families. So, Telangana is famous for handloom, and this insurance policy covers around 80,000 handloom workers.

The state government helps the handloom workers through two other schemes: Cheneta Mitra and Nethannaku Cheyutha. With less than one strategy, the state government provides a 40% subsidy to handloom workers.

 Another proposal would provide a financial assistance deposit of 16 per cent of the 8 per cent savings paid by cooperative sector workers to handloom workers as the state’s share. However, these programs only help the handloom weavers engaged in them.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had decided to introduce weavers’ insurance at par with Rythu Bima to instil confidence in weavers. 

According to him, the insurance coverage program implemented in collaboration with LIC will help 80,000 handlooms and power loom weavers in the state. If the handloom worker dies due to natural or accidental death Rs. 5 lakhs will be deposited in the nominees’ accounts within ten days.

Launch of Nethanna Bima Yojana

The government had earlier said that Telangana Bima Scheme, or scheme for weavers, would be implemented on Handloom Day. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao introduced this scheme on August 7, 2022. 

The Prime Minister announced a welfare program on National Handloom Day and wished the weavers.

According to the government, the insurance scheme has already helped 800,000 families affected by past weavers’ schemes. The scheme provides insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh to families in case of the accidental death of the beneficiary. 

At the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister stated that the handloom workers would not be able to benefit from this program without the support of the central government.

As part of this effort, the Telangana government has collaborated with the LIC of India for the Nethanna Bima scheme. The state government has partnered with the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India for the ‘Nethanna Bima’ scheme. 

The State Handloom and Textile Department have been appointed as the nodal agency for its implementation. LIC implements the scheme, and the government pays the annual premiums of the beneficiaries to the insurer on their behalf.

Objectives of the Telangana Nethanna Insurance Scheme

The main intent of this initiative is to increase the existing insurance coverage of handloom workers by the State Government.

The government is working to improve the lives of handloom workers by implementing several programs. Since 2016, the government has allocated Rs. 1200 crores per year for the handloom and textile industry.

Benefits of Telangana Nethanna Bima Yojana 

Among the many benefits provided by the Nethanna Bima Scheme are:

  • Known as the Weaver’s Scheme, this insurance covers every weaver between 18 and 59 years old. 
  • They will provide a total of Rs. 500,000 retrospectively to the leader’s family or a nominee of their choice per this arrangement’s terms. 
  • The insurance policy proceeds are credited ten days after the person’s death. 
  • For the success of this strategy, committees at the state and district levels will participate and collaborate.

Eligibility for the Scheme 

The applicant must accept and adhere to the following conditions to be qualified to participate in Nethanna Ku Bima Scheme: 

  • Telangana citizenship or domicile is mandatory for applying. 
  • If an applicant belongs to another state, they cannot participate in the plan as it is unavailable. 
  • Candidate should have previous experience as a participant of the Rythu Bima Scheme. 
  • Only adult weavers between 18 and 59 can participate in this program.
