Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy introduced one of their healthcare schemes, YSR Kanti Velugu. The project was announced on 10th October 2019, World Sight Day at, Anantapur District.
The scheme is a free mass eye screening program implemented in different phases in Andhra Pradesh.
People will get many incentives from the AP government. The scheme’s estimated expenditure is Rs 560.89 crores approximately for acquiring equipment, drugs, material, and staff. Of the total spending, 60% is from the State government of AP and 40% from India’s Central government.
At present, the third phase of YSR Kanti Velugu is running. The entire population will benefit from the scheme.
The government wants to ensure better eyesight for all the citizens of Andhra Pradesh.
The scheme will start with school children and even provide surgeries if required for the identified patients.
The AP appointed 1415health officials, 160 district program officers, 62500 teachers, 42360 Asha workers, 14000 health department employees, and 14000 ANMs to carry forward the scheme.
These 195 community health centres, 1145 primary health centres, 13 district hospitals, 11 tertiary, 13 district blindness control societies, 117 registered NGO hospitals, and 115 vision centres are included.

Benefits of the YSR Kanti Velugu Scheme
- This scheme’s main objective is to provide universal eye screening for all AP state populations free of cost.
- Under this scheme, the AP government will do primary, secondary, and tertiary eye care services.
- Within the AP government, this scheme will strengthen the existing health facilities.
- The scheme will benefit private health facilities and personnel for training, screening, surgeries, and even increasing skilled workforce availability by capacity building.
- Dr YSR Kanti Velugu will provide spectacles instantly after identifying refractive errors.
- Under the scheme, people can get surgeries for cataracts, retinopathy, glaucoma, corneal disorders, etc.
- The scheme will ensure quality services through continuous monitoring and by hiring external agencies to evaluate if needed.
Dr YSR Kanti Velugu Website Screening Process
The screening process is done by 500 teams appointed by the AP government’s concerned authorities before 31st July 2020.
- While going through the second phase, 134252 students were identified with vision defects.
- The AP government distributed around 56767 spectacles.
- Nearly 77485 cases were under evaluation.
- Under phase 16615467, children were treated.
- 436979 children identified with eye problems.
How to upload Data in Kanti Velugu Scheme?
A preliminary screening team was assigned to screen the data, collect and submit it to the respective ANMs. Now the ANMs must upload the data online.
- First, to upload the data, ANMs must visit the Dr YSR Kanti Velugu website.
- Click on the ANM Login on the home page.
- A new page opens; enter the Aadhaar number as username and mobile number as password to log in.
- Again a page appears; enter the student ID and click on get student details.
- Student details will be displayed on the screen.
- Check the data and click on the submit option to submit.
How to log in for Phase 3 of Login?
- First, applicants who want to log in for Phase 3 must visit the YSR Kanti Velugu website.
- Click on Phase 3 login on the home page.
- The login page opens, enter the username, password, and captcha code, and click on the login option.
- Applicants can view their details on the screen.
