Amma Two Wheeler Scheme launched by Tamil Nadu Government has announced the initiation of the new Scheme for the female citizens of Tamil Nadu named “Amma Two Wheeler Scheme.“ This Scheme will provide financial support to working women who need a mode of transport to travel to their workplace.
The government has announced that it will offer the applicants to buy two-wheelers at subsidised rates. All needy women can apply for this Scheme until the 10th of February 2018. This Scheme will be entirely in action from the 24th of February, 2018.

Two Wheeler Scheme Benefits
- Every year, 1 lakh women will profit.
- The subsidy will cover 50% of the scooter’s price, or Rs. 25,000, whichever is less. (Free government funding is provided for the purchase of an Amma scooter)
- Applicable to all rural and urban areas of Tamil Nadu.
- Direct crediting of the subsidy to the beneficiary’s bank account.
- Women with disabilities can purchase a three-wheeled scooter that has been modified.
- They can use a bank loan or money to pay the remaining balance.
Eligibility Criteria For Amma Two Wheeler Scheme
The following are the eligibility criteria to apply for this Scheme.
- The applicant must be a woman and be a resident of Tamil Nadu.
- It applies to women of the age group 18 – 40 years.
- The applicant must possess a driving license.
- The applicant’s annual income must not exceed more than 2.5 lakhs.
- The applicant should have cleared the 8th grade of primary school education. If the applicant belongs to a rural area, a priority will be provided under the Scheme.
- Depending on the recommendations, the homemakers who are the head of the family can also apply for this Scheme.
- Divorcee women, widows, transgender, and single mothers can also apply for this Scheme.
- The government will provide a subsidy of around 50% of the cost of the vehicle.
- The applicants will also be offered financial assistance directly through banking and non-banking institutions.
Eligible Beneficiaries for Two Wheeler Scheme
- Priority will be given to widows, women from distant areas, those over 35 who are single, transgender people, women from scheduled castes, and women from expected teams.
- Women who go a great distance for work.
- Women who are registered as workers in the organised and unorganised sectors, as well as those who work in community-based organisations like panchayat-level federations and village poverty reduction committees.
- All disabled women will be given preference.
- Women who work as ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activists)
- Women whose salary is the family’s primary source of income
- Those employed by businesses, institutions, and government-sponsored projects.
- Ladies who worked for themselves and did small jobs.
