Applicants can apply for a Thailand visa before their travel date or choose to avail of the Visa on Arrival (VOA) facility (maximum stay of 15 days). 

Depending on the need for travel and visa needs, applicants may choose an online or offline application method. However, some types of visas do not allow more than one application method. 

Entry into the Kingdom of Thailand is managed and controlled by the Royal Thai Consulate/Embassy under the (MFA) Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand.

The Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate issues Thailand visas with a validity of 3 months, six months, one year and three years. All tickets will issue with a fact stamp on them.

Additionally, the immigration officer will stamp the visa with the specified stay period. Depending on the visa type and date of entry, the stay length reflects the arrival and departure dates.

Types of Thailand Visa

Royal Thai Embassies and Thai Consulates-General issue the following types of visas:

The Thailand Tourist Visa:

Visiting the Kingdom of Thailand for Individual Tourism Purposes Those who want to stay can apply for this visa. A visa had issued with a validity of 3 months under a single-entry scheme and six months of validity under a multiple-entry plan. 

  • Visa validity: 3 months (single entry) and six months (multiple entries)
  • Duration of stay: Up to 60 days with the option of extension of stay application
  • Document Required: Completed application form, passport, attested return ticket, proof of sufficient funds and supplementary documents if required.
  • Application Fee: 1,000 baht per entry

Thailand Work Permit:

A category ‘B’ non-immigrant visa is issued to qualified foreigners wishing to work or do business in Thailand. To qualify for a work permit, the applicant must need a job offer from a prospective employer in Thailand. 

Application processed by the employer at the Department of Employment, allowing the applicant to stay for up to 90 days. Before the end of the stay, the applicant must apply for an extension stay permit at Immigration Bureau, which allows a visit for up to 1 year. 

  • Visa validity: 3 months for single-entry and six months for multiple-entry visas. Multiple-entry visa with a one-year validity option is also available.
  • Duration of stay: Up to 90 days with an option of extension of stay application
  • Document required: Application form, passport, certified return ticket, proof of enough funds, copy of work permit, approval letter, corporate documents and other documents, if applicable.
  • Application Fee: 2,000 baht for a single entry and 5,000 baht for multiple entries

Thailand Education Visa:

International students can apply for an education visa to study or attend training in the Kingdom of Thailand. Applicant must obtain an acceptance letter from the university/institute/college and provide a relevant document to be eligible for educational access.

  • Visa validity: three months for single-entry and six months and one year for multiple-entry visas
  • Duration of stay: Up to 90 days unless otherwise prescribed by the Bureau of Immigration
  • Document Required: Application Form, Confirmed Return Ticket, Proof of Sufficient Funds, Passport,
  • Cover Letter, Proof of Accommodation and another document, if applicable.
  • Application Fee: 2,000 baht for single entries and 5,000 baht for multiple entries

Thailand Marriage Visa:

Applicants entering the Kingdom of Thailand to stay and marry Thai citizens had to obtain a marriage visa. Issuing a marriage visa is subject to completing a processed application, including payment of a non-refundable visa fee.

  • Visa validity: 3 months for single-entry and six months and one year for multiple-entry visas
  • Duration of stay: Up to 90 days unless otherwise prescribed by the Bureau of Immigration
  • Document Required: Completed application form, passport, confirmed return ticket, proof of enough funds, original Thai marriage certificate, copy of Thai ID of a spouse, cover letter, proof of employment and another document, if applicable.
  • Application Fee: 2,000 baht for a single entry and 5,000 baht for multiple entries

Thailand Retirement Visa:

A person aged 50 years and above can apply for a passport to the Kingdom of Thailand. To qualify for a retirement visa, an applicant must have a minimum of 800,000 baht and above. 

Additionally, the applicant must have a monthly salary of at least 65,000 baht to qualify for the application.

  • Visa validity: 1 year for multiple-entry visas.
  • Duration of stay: Up to 90 days unless otherwise prescribed by the Bureau of Immigration
  • Document Required: 3 sets of completed application forms, passport with 18 months validity, cover letter, recent medical certificate, recent criminal record certificate, proof of adequate funds and another document, if applicable.
  • Application Fee: The fee is 5,000 baht for multiple entries.

Dependent Visa:

A person wishing to enter the Kingdom of Thailand with their family members as a dependent can apply for a dependent visa.

  • Visa validity: 3 months for single-entry and six months and one year for multiple-entry visas
  • Duration of stay: Up to 90 days unless otherwise prescribed by the Bureau of Immigration
  • Document Required: Completed application form, passport, invitation letter from employer of spouse/parent/child, copy of work permit of spouse/parent/child, copy of the access of spouse/parent/child, certified return tickets and another document, if applicable.
  • Application Fee: 2,000 baht for a single entry and 5,000 baht for multiple entries

Visa on Arrival (VOA)

Indian passport holders had been allowed to apply for VOA for a stay not exceeding 15 days, designated entry areas in Thailand issue VOA to Indian viewers based on various factors. 

An application fee of 1,000 baht is mandatory. Applicants who wish to extend their stay must apply for an extension from the Immigration Bureau. Eligible for VOA, the following documents are required:

  • A valid visa with at least six months validity and blank pages for visa stamp
  • VOA application form with a recent photo of the applicant
  • Return tickets had confirmed within 15 days from the date of entry
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds to support travel (10k baht per individual and 20k baht per family)
